A new report into the green policies of the major parties makes grim reading for David Cameron. His Conservative party was judged to be the worst of the parties on the environment. Mr Brown's Labour Party was shown to have missed their own targets on carbon emissions and green energy. However, Nick Clegg's Liberal Democrats were the clear green winners in the report. The 'Green Standard' report was conducted by the UK's leading environmental groups including CPRE, Friends of the Earth and the RSPB. It found that despite talking more about climate change, the Conservatives have "very few policy positions".

The Boundary Committee for England published its draft proposal for unitary local government in Suffolk on 7 July 2008. The proposal is for two unitary authorities - one covering Ipswich and Felixstowe and one covering the rest of the county without Lowestoft. The Committee considers its proposal is most likely to achieve the outcomes on which the government has asked for advice (affordability; value for money services; neighbourhood empowerment and engagement; broad cross section of support; and strategic leadership). The Committee also saw merit in a Suffolk unitary authority covering the whole county except for Lowestoft.

"We want to change politics and change Britain," he said. He said he believed liberalism was "the thread that holds together everything that this country stands for". Previously, in a short speech, Chris Huhne said he looked forward to being part of Nick's team. He praised Nick's energy and intelligence, and said he was convinced that Nick would take the party on from strength to strength.
