Liberal Democrats raise concerns over incineration

6.00.00pm GMT Wed 14th Jan 2009

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne has raised serious concerns over the proposed incineration station at Sproughton. Although located outside his constituency prevailing winds would mean that emissions including 'toxic fly ash' would be blown across areas of North West Ipswich including Castle Hill and Whitehouse.

Andrew who has a degree in Environmental Biology will be meeting with local Liberal Democrat Councillors in the area to discuss the issue. Suffolk County Council has launched a period of consultation and Mr. Aalders-Dunthorne has encouraged everyone interested in the future health of the community to make their views known.

"The disposal of waste is of key importance, but large scale municipal incineration centres like this are not the answer. Even modern plants produce toxic fly ash and health professionals have expressed grave concerns,"commented Andrew.
