Liberal Democrats call for REAL People's Bank

10.00.00pm GMT Sun 1st Feb 2009

Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich joined local campaigners outside the Hoxne Post Office, to press home the need for a REAL People's Bank.

Andrew commented: "The Liberal Democrats have been actively supporting the community and Post Offices in their fight against Labour's closure programme. The current financial difficulties stem from a break in trust between people and the banks."

Campaigners gathered outside the Hoxne Post Office, to celebrate the Government U-turn on awarding the Post Office the contract to maintain the Post Office Card Account.

Andrew said: "With confidence in the banking system at an all time low, now is the time to invest in the Post Office as a one-stop-shop for communities, where a wide range of postal and banking facilities are accessible. He warned: "This is not a time for gimmicks and fast talk from Labour Ministers. A People's Bank is desirable for the many individuals and communities, who either do not have access to or have lost faith in our established high street banks."
